Finals Week

Here it is, Finals Week, the week we all love to hate because that means we're that much closer to graduating. This semester I'm not feeling the same pressure I recall feeling in the first three years of my college education. I'm only taking a couple classes--literally, only two. This has relieved me of some pressure. Less projects, less to worry about, you would think. However, I have been taking on outside assignments for the Communications Department. In the next few weeks, I will have to have three recruitment videos created. This has involved a lot of time and effort on my part, including contacting individuals to be in the video, as well as shooting and editing each video for the department. I have also been working a lot; as my course load becomes less and less, I have been taking more hours at each of my jobs, which has been both good and bad for me. Good because I'm making money...Bad because...well, I'm working more. It can be a drag, on top of cutting into my schoolwork.

In preparation for Finals Week, I attended Finals Breakfast in between my homework sessions today. I've been working on my Final Portfolio in this class, to be presented on Wednesday. I have also been wrapping up loose ends in my online COMM 315 class. eFolio has been giving us all a run for our money these last couple weeks, but I've used it once before in my Interpersonal Communications class last semester, so...so far, so good.

I feel like this semester has gone by even faster than some in the past and I'm starting to feel the pressure of my impending graduation the most this year's Finals Week. Though I'm not outta the woods just yet, I think I can maybe possibly sort of see a light way out there somewhere. Tonight, as I continue my Sunday Homework Marathon, I wish us all a Happy Finals Week...may the odds ever be in your favor.

"Snow Storm"

It actually wasn't even the snow that was so awful to endure this week in North Dakota. It wasn't near as much as they predicted. It was the sub-zero temperatures and so-cold-it-burns wind chills we battled all week. If you didn't have your warm gloves and boots out yet, you have them out now and they probably aren't good enough. After a great deal of snow in the beginning of the week, the unbearable temps. came and knocked the wind right out of us.

I found myself staring at the thermometers around me in disbelief...

"Could it really be THIS cold in December???" I thought. I even had to help a friend jump start her car. That's a January and February kind of task. Ugh.

And I think maybe the worst part is...this is literally just the beginning...there is so much more to come. Ugh (again).

This weekend I took great advantage of my break...I...

...ate A LOT of leftovers...

...and did a puzzle with my friends.

I also had two Thanksgiving dinners and brought my boyfriend to his first-ever full family function. He endured both sides of the family, one day right after the other. I went to Catching Fire and got my fangirl on. I was so enthralled in the movie that I forgot to eat my popcorn. Don't worry, I made up for the popcorn...I had a third Thanksgiving (today) with my roommates and applied for graduation on the very last day of the deadline. I also got to see one of my oldest and best friends, as she was in town for the holiday. Looking back, I probably fell into about a dozen unintentional food comas over the course of the weekend due to the fact that I couldn't help but continually eat my own weight in hors d'oeuvres (I just woke up from one of these said comas now to write this post, actually). I also discovered puzzles aren't very effective in warding off these food comas...in fact, they definitely make it worse.

Funday

Today, I wasn't productive at all and I ate too much. I may regret that later this week...because I have projects due and it's Thanksgiving this weekend. Instead of working out, doing extra homework, responding to emails, working or cleaning, I spent the whole day cooking, eating, doing jigsaw puzzles, watching movies, and driving around with my friends. Now that I think about it, I probably won't regret that...it was completely well-deserved by all of us.

Dutton’s Parlour to implement marketing campaign via Social Media

Valley City, ND – October 31, 2013 – Dutton’s Parlour has accepted a campaign that will market their business through the use of new social media tools. George Dutton, the owner and operator of Dutton’s Valley Gallery and Dutton’s Parlour, located on Central Avenue, hopes the campaign will help the business keep up with the rapidly evolving world of technology. 

The campaign hopes to create and implement a fully functional Facebook page, as well as Twitter and Instagram accounts for Dutton’s Parlour. Currently, Dutton’s has a page for the photo gallery that is primarily used for promoting the photography from Dutton’s Valley Gallery. When Dutton's Parlour is searched, a page that users can "like" appears.

The goal is to use the Facebook and Twitter as a bulletin board of sorts. Daily specials and deals can be posted for customer’s convenience, as well as reminders of upcoming events. The Instagram is more for “action shots” of customers, such as on open-mic nights, but food and drink could be featured on this medium as well. 

Creating these materials and providing these social mediums will bring in more customers, as well as connect current regulars to Dutton’s even more. With these services, Dutton’s customers will be able to check in to see what’s cooking and what’s coming up at the parlour.

AP's "secret" son dies in brutal beating, AP still plays on Sunday

The news has been buzzing over the last few days about Minnesota Viking's star Adrian Peterson's 2-year-old son's death. The boy passed on Friday after his mother's boyfriend reportedly assaulted him. Originally reported as a medical emergency, the Sioux Falls Police Department quickly determined that the boy's injuries were not accidental.

Police arrested Joseph Robert Patterson, 27, who was initially charged with aggravated assault and aggravated assault on an infant. His bond was set at $750,000 in cash before the boy's death.

According to several sources, including USA Today Sports, Patterson has a prior domestic abuse record with a different woman and child.

AP made statements Friday that the boy was his son, but the not Adrian Peterson Jr., as many sources began reporting. AP told the press he would play in Sunday's game against the Panthers. According to CNN, he also requested that his privacy be respected.

The child, originally thought to be AP Jr. has been identified as the "fruit of a casual relationship" previously unknown to the press. However, photos of AP Jr. quickly spread over social media. According to several sources and news blogs, the child was only recently brought to AP's attention. TMZ stated that AP met the child for the first time while the boy was on life support.
