Everybody's a Thumbuddy!

This week and next week I'm going to see what the Internet anticipates of the iPhone 5s, the latest iPhone, set to release on September 20. (I will discuss reviews next week.) There is a lot of buzz surrounding this release, especially with the loss of creator and co-founder Steve Jobs on October 11, 2011. Many want to see what will come of Apple, the company Jobs poured his mind power into to become a technology mogul and legend. 

One of the most buzzed about feature that the new iPhone has is the fingerprint scanner, known as TouchID, used to unlock the user's device. Replacing the passcode method, which requires users to enter in a 4-digit password to unlock their iPhones, this fingerprint scanner has raised some praise and some concern. 

Many people feel that the passcode is tedious and time-consuming. Jobs himself described this locking method as "in the way of the user experience." An recent article (that prompted me to write about this) I found on the Huffington Post reported that Yahoo! CEO Marissa Mayer doesn't even lock her iPhone, finding it to be inconvenient. She's not alone though; the article finds that half of iPhone users disable this security feature. She received a little flack for her comments. Read the HuffPost article, here.
