Arianna Huffington

Because my blog focuses on the media, who better to write about than the woman named number 12 on Forbes 2009 list of Most Influential Women in Media.

This is Arianna Huffington, best know for the online new site The Huffington Post.

Huffington was born Ariánna Stasinopoúlou in Athens, Greece on July 15, 1950. After moving to the United Kingdom at the age of 16, Huffington attended Griton College, Cambridge and studied economics. She later became the President of the Cambridge Union. 

In the 1970s, Huffington started her career as an author. She eventually moved to New York City in 1980 after breaking away from a long-time relationship with her role model and mentor, Bernard Levin. This, however, only scrapes the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the writing and reporting career of Huffington.

Huffington married Michael Huffington, a Republican politician, now LGBT advocate. She became well-known as a Conservative supporter after her husband lost his senate bid in 1994 and from there became a Republican commentator. She would later adopt liberal political views in the 1990s.


Huffington became a female media super power after she launched The Huffington Post on May 9, 2005. The site is notoriously liberal and offers news, blogs, and original content and covers politics, business, entertainment, environment, technology, popular media, lifestyle, culture, comedy, healthy living, women's interests, local news and more.
